FIC: Resonare Mortis (R)

Title: Resonare Mortis
Type: Fic
Prompter: magritte_o
Creator: laralee88
Beta(s): meladara
Rating: R
(Highlight to View) Warning(s): While I hope you enjoy this story (and I believe you will), I should warn you that it is not for the faint of heart. This story is rated mature for a reason, as there are strong images of death throughout. That being said, it is not my intention to frighten anyone away, but to merely make you aware of the world you are about to step into..
(Highlight to View) Prompt: Years after the war, Hermione uncovers Severus' autopsy report — and she finds out that she did not, in fact, watch him die in the Shrieking Shack. The report says he died hours (or days) later, and there was evidence of significant pain. How does she react? (SS/HG or SS & HG.)
Note: I would like to extend a very special thanks to meladara. She has listened to me laugh, whine, and cry through every single word of this story. She deserves a medal, not only for her keen eye as a beta, but for being an incredible cheerleader and fierce friend. Also, to of_anoesis, thank you for making my story authentic. It was a pleasure working with you and sincerely hope to do it more in the future. tychesong, you are the master of those dumb dumb quotes. You saved me from going insane, and I am forever in your debt. And finally, to all of those who not only took the time to read this tale but also review, I write for you. Your words are like gold to me, and I could never express my gratitude to each of you for allowing me to play with you in the SSHG sandbox. Characters are property of J.K. Rowling and the Harry Potter Universe. Thankfully, she allows me to borrow them for a bit of fun.
Summary: That night, I didn't sleep. It would have been impossible had I wanted to. Sitting wide-eyed with my former professor's head resting in my lap was hardly conducive to rest. There was so much I wanted to ask him but, like he said, I need to learn to not ask questions I don't really want the answers to. The questions swirling in my mind are merely my shaky attempt to keep my stomach from twisting into knots over the grief and guilt of what I didn't do. I owe Severus Snape more than I can give him.

Chapter I: Delving
